¡°And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.¡± --Luke 2:52
As a child, Jesus knew that the best place to be was ¡°in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions¡± (Luke 2:46). God graces families with teachers in the church to partner with families in the spiritual formation of children. Families and the church partner together to create an environment that is: fun, safe, clean, and well-staffed (4 Core Values of ED).
There are 3 priorities CHMC focuses on in raising children in God¡¯s favor.
1. Parents Pastor First
The first step in raising our children is accepting the Biblically-based premise that the main shepherd of a child is the parent. The church has environmental limitations and time constraints to fully bear the responsibility of children¡¯s faith and religious education alone. The church¡¯s role is to systematically train and support parents to have the ability to make practical influence on their children¡¯s spiritual growth in the home.
The Education Department Orange Curriculum¡¯s Parent Cue is a fantastic resource where parents and their children can review Scripture, pray, and talk about their day focusing on God. The Parent Cue goes out weekly with your child. Please review it and spend a few minutes each day pastoring your child¡¯s soul.
2. Parents Serve First
Secondly, parents are significant role players in the educational ministry, and are ministry partners with CHMC¡¯s Education Department. The best volunteers are parent-volunteers! Parents are role models for their children in the way they give their time, energy and resources in serving God.
CHMC invites and encourages parents to proactively volunteer and dedicate their time to their children¡¯s ministry. There are multiple ways parents can be involved in their children¡¯s spiritual formation: teaching, prayer, set-up and clean-up, facility-decorator, greeter, administrative support, security, medic, and many other ways!
3. Parents do Church with Family First
Lastly, God calls the Education Department to be a family-oriented ministry. CHMC will provide support and resources to create healthy families. Education Department ministries will shift gears in constantly creating family-friendly programs and making available events that foster parent-child relationships.
The ED comprises of 12 departments including AWANA, Gabe Orda and Korean School. Each Sunday, we serve over 400 students ranging from infant-age to High School. Both AWANA and
Korean School nurture an additional 150 students each, adding Biblical and Korean language and cultural enrichment. Gabe-Orda ministers to un-churched pre-K & Kinder kids.
The ED intercessory prayer team prays specifically for students and department needs. In addition, ED is supported by a 7-member Committee team, 7 PTA groups, and 12 Directors (Boo-jang department representatives).
God has empowered families through partnership with the church. May our children grow in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man, just as Jesus did all the days of His life.
