High School Ministry

The High School Ministry welcomes you to our website! Our ministry covers the final 3 years of the student's high school life. As church's may know, the Barna Group's research showed that around 60% of high school students leave the church after they graduate. However, that number is closer to 90% in the Korean-American immigrant churches. The few that stay behind are quickly plugged into a ministry for the church fears their departure as well. With this knowledge, our HS Ministry's philosophy is to prepare students for college.

The High School Ministry is a partner to the Jr. High Ministry (Pastor Paul Chong) and the College Ministry (Pastor Chris Kim) and we work closely together to achieve our ministry's goal: to train HS students for college spiritually, mentally, socially, etc. so that they can grow up as men and women of God (Proverbs 22:6).

Because our time together is limited to 3 years, HS students will be engaging in 3-year curriculum focusing on the Gospel: Know the Gospel, Live the Gospel, and Share the Gospel.

1. Know the Gospel

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.  And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise." - Deuteronomy 6:5-7 (ESV)

Our goal for sophomores is to cover the Gospel and give them the tools to see Jesus in the Old Testament (Fall Semester) and New Testament (Spring Semester). Whether it be through Bible Study, Small Group, praise and worship, or activities, we will train them to not only see Jesus in the Bible, but also in history and current events.

2. Live the Gospel

"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; andthe life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, wholoved me and gave Himself up for me." Galatians 2:20 (NASB)

Our goal for juniors is for them to apply the biblical truths in their lives. Our staff and teachers will train and equip the students to take the Gospel to where they are, whether it's SATs, video games, dating, friends, families, etc. By the end of the year, they should be able to not only KNOW the Gospel, but also LIVE the Gospel.

3. Share the Gospel

"And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

Our goal for seniors is for them to practice the knowledge and application through evangelism and missions. Our activities will be local out-reach, visitations, short-term missions, etc. By the time the seniors graduate and go to college, they will know and see the Gospel is, apply the Gospel in their lives, and share the Gospel in new place to new people.

Message to Parents

The one thing I really appreciated about my parents is that we had devotions every morning before breakfast.  That's something I promised myself I would do when I had my own family.  I would like to ask the parents to be actively involved with their children's spiritual lives.  Remember, there was no youth ministry in the Bible. However, God used young people throughout history.  Let us become a partner with you in teaching these students for the future, not only academically, but also spiritually (Deuteronomy 11:18-19).

Message to Students

God used young people (Joseph, Samuel, David, John, etc.) and God will also use you (1 Timothy 4:12)!  He uses the most obedient and not the most qualified!  Our ministry will help you find out God's calling in your life and our staff and teachers will not only pray for you and love you, but we will also use all our resources and strength to train and equip you to live for God in college (and beyond)!
